Velvet slippers are some of the finest slippers money can buy. Velvet slippers are both very comfortable to wear and luxurious with the soft supple fabrics caressing your skin. Simply put, velvet slippers make you feel like a million bucks. It has to do with velvet really. It has a very distinctive feel to it that can best be described as smooth. A loom is usually used to produce velvet. In fact, two types of velvet of varying thickness is weaved at the same time.

They used to be quite pricey to produce but with modern technology, it has been much cheaper to produce. However, velvet does have some undesirable traits. Chief among them is its difficulty to clean. It needs to be dry cleaned for best effect. It is made from various materials and fibers but it usually includes silk.

Needless to say, velvet slippers that are produced with silk are some of the softest, smoothest and most expensive slippers on the market. Add a big brand name on the slipper and the price rises even higher. An alternative to silk is cotton. While less luxurious, they are cheaper to make and sell but are still quite soft to the touch as well. Different velvet types around the world are given different labels. For example, velvet made in Congo by the Kuba people is called Kuba velvet. This is because they are traditionally made from raffia (Surprisingly enough).

However, with advances in synthetic fabrics, many materials such as nylon, spandex and acetate can be used with natural fibers to produce velvet. Velvet slippers owes much to the existence of Kashmir, where cashmere wool was invented. Back then, they are used strictly by nobility and peoples of high standing. Today however, you don't need to be a prince to pamper your feet to a luxurious evening at home with velvet slippers.
